Reports indicate that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

An Important Comeback for the Franchise

Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Industry whispers indicate their appearance will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, considering the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.

The film's events are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The supporting roles feature several prominent actors in pivotal roles:

• Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

In other news, Jennifer Lawrence is receiving acclaim for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
