Alleged Stalker Questioned: 'Yet Imagine I Could Be Madeleine?'
A female accused with harassing Kate McCann reportedly deposited her a recorded message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has persistently claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial charged with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the tribunal learned communication data and evidence retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly asking Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout that period.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most publicized child disappearance cases and remains open.
'I Don't Want Money'
One voicemail, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine was, but I believe what I feel."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Suppose there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Wouldn't that be crucial for you?"
"I do not need money, I possess a living here in Poland, I only wish to discover," the recording stated.
The jury was told that via electronic messages, SMS messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a DNA test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a attempt to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a childhood with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an intelligence analyst with law enforcement who collated the information, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with close associates of the McCanns, as per the call data.
On October 9th, 2024, Gerry McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "a wrong number."
During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone saying "I will continue and I plan to establish my claim."
The court heard the co-defendant struck up a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a appearance to the McCanns' home in the county in that winter.
Call logs demonstrated Mrs Spragg had reached out via communication app to Mrs McCann to express the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the months preceding the trip to that location, the county, in that winter.
The court heard message exchanges between the two individuals, in November 2024, planning attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her garbage or from silverware at a eating establishment.
"We need to take action," the co-defendant informed Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the trip to their residence, Mrs Spragg dispatched a text which stated: "We're currently sat adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark similar to detectives. I wanted to do this with another person I never thought I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The trial continues.
